What You Need To Know About Changing Automatic Transmission Fluid
There are a lot of car owners who will say that most car manuals do not provide detailed instructions when it comes to changing the automatic transmission fluid. This is not something which is done precisely, because there are a lot of automatic cars which have their transmissions repaired. You have to change your fluid and the filter every 30,000 miles to have the car running in excellent shape. This article will broaden your insight when it comes to the function of automatic car transmission fluid.
A car’s automatic transmission is subjected to high heat because of friction. Friction can be caused by any of the following: movement of the fluid inside the torque converter, movement of the clutch plates when it is engaged, and the normal friction you encounter from movement such as those from turning gears and bearings to carry the load of the car. This friction produces heat that can cause damage to your car’s transmission. Overheating is the number one cause to car breakdowns. This is something our customers have to understand of our San Diego Amsoil dealers company.
Of course it is important that you use the proper type of automatic transmission fluid. Using the wrong fluid will cause damage to your transmission as well. A good idea would be to check your car manual or check the dipstick of your car. You will know the type of transmission fluid you would need from those two places. Utilizing the incorrect fluid will lead to improper shifting and feel of your transmission. This is very important for your car that is why we tell this to all clients of our Amsoil synthetic motorcycle oil.
It may get a bit difficult in changing the transmission on automatic transmissions. This is due to the fact that there is no drain plug. In order to remove the fluid, you also have to remove the pan. It is important that you have a catch pan which will be able to hold all the fluid which will drip out. For automatic cars, a third of the fluid will be found in the torque converter. Because you won’t be able to remove all of the fluid, it is like just changing the fluid. This is better though than not changing it. That is why you should have professionals do it such as our Amsoil synthetic diesel oil service.
Clean the pan well before you return it to its place. Make sure that you also position the new filter in its proper position. Do not overfill the transmission as well. A good way to check the level is to check on the dipstick. And then drive around for a couple of minutes so as to check the level of the fluid. It is best to check the level of the fluid when the transmission is hot.
